"A Perfect Quest", to give it its full title, was a song purported for
Sing Back Knightmare to perform and produce, based upon Lou Reed's "A Perfect Day". "A Perfect Day" had previously been released by various artists as part of a BBC record campaign in the '90s, and Perfect Quest was thought to be a good back-reference.
Eventually, the project had to be put on ice due to varying complications - mostly arguments about what the song should be about as it hadn't actually been written yet.
Pooka suggested the idea of the song being about 'perfect quests' - that is to say, winning teams - presenting them as fallen
heroes.
David (
Drassil) favoured a general play-by-play description of things happening, suggesting verses such as:
"Such a perfect quest,
Drank
poison-turned-
opposite,
Then there was a
Merlin bit,
He cast
HOME..."
Robin John Barlow (
Mashibinbin) expressed dislike at the idea of winning
teams as heroes, because he thought the expression should be reserved for people such as doctors and
firemen.
Sing Back Knightmare eventually went on to choose, record, and produce
All I Want Is Knightmare To View instead.
"Perfect Quest" itself was eventually written and recorded by
Pooka during the following year, the lyrics beginning with the verse by
David above, and continuing with lyrics by Pooka using his 'fallen heroes' idea. Unlike the other SBK songs, it was not downloadable until 2010, in which it was included as track 5 of
Sing Back Knightmare: 2005-2010.
